eJazz Information

The eJazz Ensemble is a select ensemble where students, chosen by audition get exposure to the various genres of music that would typically be played by a traditional jazz band, or "big band." A traditional jazz ensemble will only include saxophones, trumpets, trombones, piano, bass, guitar, and drums. We include any instrument that wished to experience this style of music. We have performed popular tunes like Don't Stop Believin' by Journey, Enter Sandman by Metallica, Shake It Off by Taylor Swift, Dynamite by Taio Cruz, The James Bond Theme and The Sesame Street Theme, along with jazz standards like Sing, Sing, Sing by Gene Krupa, Woodchopper's Ball by Woody Herman, and The Land of Make Believe by Chuck Mangione.

 Rehearsals

Rehearsals will take place at the Red Lion Area Junior High School. The first rehearsal is Tuesday, February 4th from 7:00-7:30. We rehearse each Tuesday at that time until our Spring Concert on May 9th.

Attendance Policy

If a student is absent from school, they are not permitted to participate in after school activities. If a student is sent home by the school nurse, they should not come to rehearsal the same evening.

An excused absence is defined as an unavoidable conflict that is medical, family, or religious in nature. Others are considered unexcused. Some examples:

Excused                                                   Unexcused

Sick, home from school                             Friend’s birthday party

Grandparent’s 60th Birthday                Uncle’s 3rd wedding anniversary

Wedding                                                    Concert at the Giant Center

Two unexcused absences will be overlooked before the Spring Concert. Students who are absent an excessive amount, excused or unexcused, run the risk of being cut from portions of the concert if they are not able to adequately perform their music.

The band directors will determine if an absence is excused or not excused. If there is a disagreement between directors and parents about this, we will ask a school administrator to make the determination instead.

Procedures

Parents are to drop students off at the side entrance of the Jr. High near the music wing. According to the Jr. High’s security policy, parents are NOT permitted to enter the building. Students should be dropped off between 20-10 minutes early to allow time to prepare for the start of rehearsal.

Students are dismissed from rehearsal at 8:00, Meaning that they will come outside shortly after that. Mr. Kriebel or Mr. Rosenkrans will come outside with students to supervise. Parents should meet students at the sidewalk to escort them to their car for safety reasons.
