Ms. Brooke Bensinger is currently the school counselor at Locust Grove Elementary School. She has been employed by Red Lion Area School District since 2003 and was previously a school counselor at Red Lion Area Junior High School. Ms. Bensinger earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Human Development and Family Studies from Pennsylvania State University and a Master of Science degree in Counseling from McDaniel College. Prior to receiving her certification in school counseling, Ms. Bensinger was employed in the mental health and social services fields.
School counselors strive to meet the personal, social, and academic needs of students by collaborating with teachers, staff, and families to support students. It is Ms. Bensinger's goal to build rapport and establish positive relationships in order to enhance each student's school experience.
Ms. Bensinger continues to be a puppy raiser for Susquehanna Service Dogs. She is currently raising SSD Louther, a black lab who accompanies her to school and school district activities in order to socialize him to various public settings. At approximately 18 months of age, Louther will attend his advance training where he will learn specific tasks to assist individuals with disabilities so that they may lead more independent lives. For those of you who remember SSD Armstrong, he will be adopted by Ms. Bensinger and hopefully become certified as a therapy dog. If you see Ms. Bensinger with one of the dogs, it is important that you ask permission to pet him as he is most likely working and needs to stay focused on his handler and the task he was given.
Ms. Bensinger has lived in our school district for over 25 years and her two children have attended the Red Lion schools. In her spare time, Ms. Bensinger enjoys sports, baking, tie-dying, and Zumba.
